04/03/2020: Today's Updates... Day 84...

Updates during the daytime are only on the Whatsapp group in March.

Today was another great day for the Chatel ski area, with conditions keeping everyone happy and the area still looks like a winter picture postcard, with snow laden trees. The weather remained bright, with patchy cloud coming and going. Snow conditions reamined powdery in many areas this morning.

Tomorrow looks very different - with wind, rain and snow. Alot of rain is expected on the lower half of the ski area, with that snow/rain limit perhaps edging towards 2000m for a time (ouch), however, a significant snowfall is expected to develop tomorrow evening and night... perhaps 40cm at 1800m by 7am Friday.

Unknowns at this stage include whether there will be any lowering of the daytime snow/rain limit due to evaporative cooling in any heavier precipitation - this is often a nowcast scenario, so we shall wait and see, however, as there is plenty of wind forecast, the chances of this happening are diminished.

We also don't yet know when that fall in the snow/rain limit will occur and the hi-res Arome model keeps the snow/rain limit marginal for the village elevation through the evening.

It looks like being another very interesting day of weather .

Photos from this morning...

Bonjour from Chatel... and it a cold start to the morning, with variable amounts of cloud and some clear slots overhead, with an air temperature of around -3C in the village. Conditions have allowed snowmaking to take place overnight, which will help to consolidate the excellent natural snowfall of Monday evening / night...

This morning's forecast is expected to be online at 8.00am... http://www.chatelweb.com/chatel_snow_forecast.php
