05/01/2020: Today's Updates... Day 25...

5.05pm:

The skies have been crystal clear all day here in Chatel helping to continue the marked contrasts in conditions.... rock hard scraped areas with some decent patches, some slopes softening slightly in the mild sunshine, a chilly breeze coming and going and some decent snow on some pistes too, especially the less steep ones, with shaded areas remaining in winter mode. Although the snow remains plentiful in many areas, we could do with some more natural snow - the prospects of which will next be looked at on tomorrow morning's forecast update.

A camera with a bit more zoom on it, came on today's excursion - not our main camera, so the image quality isn't perfect, but one which doesn't mind bouncing around in a back pack for the afternoon. The first bit of action came when we heard a major avalanche on Mont de Grange. We missed the spectacular bit, but captured the last bit of it, as can be seen on the 2 photos below...

Here's a view across to the top of the Barbossine black piste.

... looking across to Super Chatel...

... and a view looking down to the village...

... and across to Linga...

... and finally, looking towards the dome on Mont Blanc...

It's been a nice day for admiring the amazing scenery!

7.15am:

Bonjour from Chatel. There's some good news to start the day with some colder temperatures overnight allowing widespread snowmaking to take place across the ski area. It is currently below -5c at our location at 1200m. This snowmaking should be useful for the lowest slopes in particular... but, are the colder temperatures set to last?...
