06/01/2020: Today's Updates... Day 26...
Another day of beautiful weather here, though unfortunately, we were unable to get on the mountain today. There is still some good snow to be found out there, though it would be nice if we could just get that snow better on the lower slopes, so that the bottom areas could open - eg at Cret Beni, the Stade drag, better snow down to the village etc - and also a refresh of conditions higher up
The GFS model has today continued to show the potential for some useful snowfall overnight on Thursday and into Friday. A look at a couple of the charts (see below) shows the low in question which will be feeding in the potential precipitation and this low is being picked up by all the models, with the examples below from GFS and Arpege. At the monent, the issue is that there is a really narrow window of opportunity for this low to deliver us any snowfall, with a chance that we might just get a weak, glancing blow with very little precipitation. For example, although both these charts show the low, the GFS suggests some useful precipitation totals whereas the Arpege model shows very little.
So, as this is 3 days away, which is long time when it comes to forecasting snowfall amounts, it is impossible to know what will happen, though experience suggests we will need alot of luck for this one to deliver. It would be nice if it was to deliver something, as most charts suggest another dry 7 days would follow behind it ... more on this in the morning...

Bonjour from Chatel. The skies are clear this morning and there is a marked temperature inversion in the area, with the village currently seeing temperatures of -2.5C, with the valley seeing temperatures below -5C. Unfortunately, atmospheric conditions higher up are not suitable for widespread snowmaking, though some of the very lowest cannon in the area might be operating.
...more info will be posted on today's forecast page at... http://www.chatelweb.com/chatel_snow_forecast.php - which is normally online around 8am or earlier, followed by further updates on this page today.
