07/01/2020: Today's Updates... Day 27...

The blue skies returned today, after the morning cloud, bringing some milder feeling sunshine, however, snow conditions on the ski area remain generally in winter mode, thanks to the predominantly clear skies over the last week, with many slopes today, especially north facing ones, having areas of cold, dry snow on them. As there is much less traffic on the pistes this week (there were less than 50 cars in the main larger area of Linga car park late morning), there is less scraping of the loose snow on the pistes, so there is still plenty of great snow to be found. Some of the steeper sections do have some icier surprises, however, despite the battering of the holidays and the lack of recent natural snowfall, and the often mild daytimes, conditions are holding up remarkably well. "Mostly good" is perhaps the best description we can find for today's piste conditions, though the weather is better than good again this afternoon!

Obviously we would like to see "mostly good" transform into "mostly excellent", but for that to happen we could do with a useful fall on fresh snow, of which, there is still really nothing to get excited about just yet.

Photos below from today's excursion, with the first shot taken of one of the French national mogul team skiers training at Linga.

There's a bit of cloud obscuring the sunshine at times here in Chatel, but it is still bright most of the time. The periphery of the ski area looks deserted this morning, with hardly anyone encountered on the Barbossine area and the view down to the Panthiaz car park at 10am tells its own story...

... and here was the view across to the Abondance area...

Update expected later this afternoon after a trip to another part of the ski area and a look at the prospects for any snowfall on Thursday night / Friday.

Bonjour from Chatel. There's some patchy cloud overhead this morning with a temperature inversion bringing air temperatures of between 1C and -2C in the village and valley area. Although temperatures are close to, or a touch above 0C in the village, ground temperatures are below freezing.

Are there still signs of a snowfall arriving on Thursday night / Friday? The forecast page will be addressing that question before 8am...

...more info will be posted on today's forecast page at... http://www.chatelweb.com/chatel_snow_forecast.php - which is normally online around 8am or earlier, followed by further updates on this page today.
