07/12/2019: Today's Updates... Day 1 Of The 2019/20 Season...
Conditions were generally excellent underfoot this morning at Pre La Joux on the opening day of the season. There was some cloud, a noticeable breeze at times and even some early flakes of snow blowing in the wind, however, there were some pristine and very quiet pistes to start the day. Above about 1750m/1800m, the snow was wonderfully dry and grippy, with some noticeable hardening of the pistes heading down into Plaine Dranse. There was also hardly a stone to be found on the pistes which had had some cannon snow mixed in, with a very good depth of snow in general higher up, which means the base is effectively in place on many key pistes.
Below Plaine Dranse, the snow was wetter, but the cover was still good right down to the bottom. Unfortunately, the lower half of the Belette was not open, which limited opportunities for complete beginners - however, that was just about the only negative. There looks like there was more cloud and breeze this afternoon than expected on the forecast.
So, lots to be positive about on this opening weekend... and there is snow on the way for Monday.
Note that on Monday, the forecast early in the morning and updates on this page will be posted only to the WhatsApp group. So, if you don't want to miss out on the several snow reports scheduled for this upcoming potential snow event, then see the details at the bottom of the page. If you want to see the updates, but don't want to join the WhatsApp group, then we can also set up emailing of the updates - so contact us on the form below for more info. Snow reports and the forecast will be available again for all on Tuesday.
Bonjour from Chatel - where it is a much milder start to the day in comparison with recent nights down here in the village. Cloud has increased overnight, so we have lost the combination of cooling under the clear skies and noticeable temperature inversions, and this has resulted in temperatures of around 5c in the village this morning. It is dry at the moment though the latest precipitation radar suggests some light shower activity in the area.
This will be updated from the ski area this morning - as it is day 1 of a brand new season!
Today's forecast link will be posted at about 8am at... http://www.chatelweb.com/chatel_snow_forecast.php
How you can help this season... you will notice on some pages that there is a PayPal tip/donation box, eg on the "About Us" page, where you can send us a tip, if you like what we are doing. There is no obligation to do so, but any donations will help the running costs of this site during the winter season. This will also give you access to the WhatsApp group - if you wish to join.
