08/02/2019: Today's Updates... 7.10pm...
After a milder, but very pleasant afternoon, our eyes are turning to the next really interesting period of potential snowfall - which looks like being from Sunday afternoon and into Monday.
Looks like there will be some very strong winds too... next update early tomorrow...
Snow conditions are excellent on the ski area today with the pistes freshened by several cm, and there was some pleasantly mild feeling sunshine this morning too. After dipping into the PLJ area first thing (which seemed busy), we scarpered off to quieter areas where the lower volume of traffic and fresh snow combined for some exceptional, soft piste conditions.
How much snow has fallen? Higher up today, we found a range of depths of fresh snow, with a bit of wind re-distribution too, meaning some off piste routes were possible. An average depth of 10cm had fallen at 1800m, based on the measurements we took this morning, however, Avoriaz is reporting only 5cm of fresh, so there appears to be some variations across the area. 3.5cm fell yesterday evening in Chatel.
There was an early red sky above the village...
Bonjour - the snowfall of yesterday ended up bringing 3.5cm of fresh snow to the village, thanks to the short burst of heavier snowfall which arrived during the evening. Skies are now clear with temperatures in the valley down to -6c.
Updates will appear on this page today and the forecast page is expected to be updated
towards 7.45am this morning.
