08/12/2020: Today's Updates...
... and a slightly snowier Arome 12z model run from meteociel.fr - it's still showing less than other models - but there remains the chance of some useful accumulations by morning... next update will be early tomorrow...
There's a bit more snow showing on the 6z Arome model run from meteociel.fr - however, it is still showing quite a bit less than the GFS - but it is trending in the right direction... will it continue the trend on the 12z run early this evening???
There is some more snow on the way to the Chatel area during tonight and tomorrow, but as usual, there are differences between the models regarding just how much. The hi res Arome model, shown below from meteociel.fr is the most pessimistic this morning in terms of potential accumulations, with 1cm to 3 cm being shown across the Chatel ski area. Other models such as the GFS, Arpege, WRF, suggest more snow than this with 10cm looking a possibility in the village. Looking at other sources and forecasts, most suggest more than the Arome model's prediction. We will know a little bit more when the 12z model runs come out early this evening and the latest Arome chart will be posted then.
Looking further ahead and Friday is the next point of interest for some useful or perhaps significant snowfall, but more on this over the next couple of days.
The recent snowfalls, and conditions which have seen widespread snowmaking, along with the potential for further snow over the coming days, does mean that many pistes should be in pretty good shape once they have been bashed, however, it remains unclear as to when the lifts will be allowed to open. An announcement regarding the potential date for skiing resuming is expected in the near future.
Bonjour from Chatel where it is cold and frosty and snow making is continuing at all elevations of the ski area... updates to follow during the day...
