09/01/2019: Today's Updates... 7.50pm...

Day 26 Of The 2018/19 Chatel Ski Season:

Another 2cm since 5.30pm, so we are now at 9cm since 7am and 20cm in total since yesterday, at our location, which is just below 1200m. A few flakes currently falling. Next update at about 6.30am...

Snow conditions are very much improved with the fresh snow - how nice it is to feel something soft under the feet, rather than the variations of concrete that have been endured since Christmas. It was suggested by someone today that conditions were good last week, well, they improved a bit over the weekend with the snow making and the quieter pistes, but if conditions were "good" last week, then...

Another cm was measured at our home location at 5.30pm after getting back from Linga, so that is 8cm since 7am and 18cm since the snowfall began. It has been snowing again since then, so we'll update these figure later.

Measuring at various sites this afternoon found 25cm to 30cm at 1800m, so we are calling it 28cm so far, however, there are some differences locally due to the showery nature of this snowfall event and more snow has fallen at the top of the area. There was some powder to be found this afternoon, just enough to make it really fun, though you could feel the bottom at times. The pistes on Linga were in good shape and we had quite a few exhilarating laps. Later this afternoon, the wind picked up and there were some gusts in the village too, blowing the snow around.

It is still too soon to comment on which models have got this snowfall right as the precipitation radar suggests further snow showers this evening and night, so we'll have a look at all of that on tomorrow's updates. So far, our impression is that useful rather than significant accumulations have arrived, but we could do with a bit more tonight to help the areas that have been struggling - and alot more would be nice. The models suggest we might be able to sneak a few more cm's out of this one, but again it is all down to a shower lottery so it is impossible to know the outcome.

Looking a bit further ahead, and the models have been struggling with the detail for this coming weekend and early next week, however, it does look as though we should see some more snowfall, which would really make a difference. More on this tomorrow, starting on the forecast page.

In the meantime, we'll post again during the evening (8pm -ish) with the latest village accumulations and there should be a snow report update very early tomorrow, at approx. 6.30am...

Currently working on an update - which should be online at about 7pm... back late from Linga (blame Ski Club!)...

Out and about... updating from Linga telecabine. Fun snow conditions. 2cm additional to last update at home to 1.30pm - so 7cm since 7am and 17cm since yesterday. Appears to be 25cm to 30cm fresh at 1800m. Currently snow flurries.

We have just about managed another 1cm since the last update, bringing the total at our village location to 5cm since 7am and 15cm for the total snowfall so far.

Heading to the ski area this afternoon, so an update should be posted from there at some stage, probably at about 3pm-ish (if technology allows!).

Another 4cm of snow has fallen at our location since 7am bringing the total since 9pm yesterday evening to 10cm and 14cm for the total snowfall... we are slowly heading in the right direction...

10am view.

Mostly light snowfall continuing. Will update on any additional accumulations at 10am. Delaying trip to the ski area until this afternoon.

Judging by the Google analytics web stats for this week, there are alot of people watching!

Thanks also to the latest tippers, that help us to have the time to keep this updated - there is a PayPal tip/donation box, eg on the "About Us" page, where you can send us a tip, if you like what we are doing...

That snow shower passed through, so it has been relatively drier since the last update, with snow flurries. The precipitation radar suggests snow showers heading for this general area, so as just mentioned on the forecast page, it is going to be a case of snowfall lotto today.

Will keep you posted...

Good news... currently snowing heavily and 6cm of powdery snow has been added since yesterday evening, bringing the total for this snowfall, at our location just below 1200m, to 10cm since yesterday. A couple of those cm's have fallen in the last 30 minutes.

Back to writing the forecast...

Bonjour from Chatel... it is snowing this morning and an update on accumulations will be made at just after 7am...

The snow forecast is expected to be online at around 7.30am...

How you can help this season... you will notice on some pages that there is a PayPal tip/donation box, eg on the "About Us" page, where you can send us a tip, if you like what we are doing. There is no obligation to do so, but any donations will help the running costs of this site during the winter season. The more people who help, the better we can make this site.
