11/01/2020: Today's Updates... Day 31...

Here's a total accumulated precipitation chart from this evening's model suite from www.meteociel.fr which shows its forecast of no precipitation in the immediate area for the next 10 days. Hopefully we'll see some slightly more optimistic charts for snowfall over the next couple of days. Other charts still suggest there is still a chance of something in a week's time, so the chart below is by no means one to take too seriously, however, it does show the potential of what could happen if we get unlucky...

The beautiful weather has continued this afternoon...

Next update will look at the early evening model runs and the possibility of snow in about a week's time.

Clear skies have returned for the weekend and there are 41/45 pistes open today in Chatel and all but the Stade drag lift remaining open, so there has been no real change in piste and lift status since the start of the year.

Snow conditions are generally good this morning, according to our sources, after a great overnight piste job. There will of course be areas of icier conditions, especially on the steeper pistes - but conditions continue to hold up well, considering that it is almost 3 weeks since the last significant snowfall - which the very lowest areas missed out on.

As discussed on the forecast this morning, we are basically back to an anticyclonic, dry scenario for the coming week, with sunny aspect slopes becoming milder during the daytimes, and any clear skies overnight resulting in a piste re-freeze and a temperature inversion bringing temperatures below 0C to the valley. The opportunities for snowmaking continue to be limited, which has been a feature of this season so far, which is one reason why the cover on the lowest slopes such as the Stade at Linga, is relatively thin for the time of year.

There remains the chance of a change towards the end of next week, but that remains in the "possible" rather than "certain" category.

Bonjour from Chatel. It's currently clear with temperatures between -1.5C and -2.5C in the village and valley area and it looks like being a lovely weekend...
