13/01/2020: Today's Updates... Day 33...
Updated: Jan 13, 2020
Having reviewed the latest models so far today and late this afternoon, it appears there are 2 camps. The GFS model still suggests the potential for 20cm to 30cm of fresh snowfall on Friday night / Saturday and has been showing a bit more on some runs. For example last night it had a 40cm+ run for the mid mountain elevation. On the other hand, the most recent runs from models such as Arpege, UK Met Office and also this morning's ECMWF model run, show a slightly different evolution which appears to result in a shorter period of precipitation. From what info which is publically available, these other models are showing approximately 5cm to 10cm of snow ie much less than the GFS scenario.
We should have more of an idea of the trend on tomorrow morning's update - but as always, treat those automated apps and websites which are fed by GFS model data with caution, to avoid the potential for disappointment.
Next update early tomorrow on here and then a forecast page update between 7am and 8am.
The skies have seen a thin veil of cloud today, especially during the morning when it was bright, rather than sunny, with the clearer skies returning this afternoon.
There was some snowmaking in places again overnight and it was very quiet when we ventured into the Barbossine sector this morning. At the top, a noticeable breeze was just starting to pick up, which is expected to increase later today.
There will be a look at the latest on the potential end of week snowfall on an update this evening, after some of the 12z model runs have appeared.
