13/03/2020: Today's Updates... Day 93...
Friday the 13th has lived up to its name on a personal level (don't ask) and on a weather level too, with the expected brighter skies not arriving. Instead we had a dank and drizzly day with low cloud shrouding the ski area.
All the local schools have now closed, as have the local ski club training sessions and various other events in the area due to the threat of Covid19, however, the ski area is set to remain open this weekend and here is a google translation of the latest info from SAEM...
"The alert level is that given by the state services (currently level 2). The company and the station follow the recommendations and apply the recommendations in force. The Châtel "Espace Liberté" ski area and the Portes du Soleil ski area are not, for the time being , impacted by an opening restriction. Also all the information likely to circulate on social networks is incorrect. The station will keep you informed on official recommendations from the authorities competent at national or regional level."
On a brighter note, those on the WhatsApp group know that we regularly post news on the progress in the World Cup of Chatel's team GB siblings, Thomas, Leonie and Makayla Gerken-Schofield, who have all had an amazing first year on the mogul World Cup tour. This culminated in Thomas finishing second at last week's dual mogul event.
Thomas is on the left (the Guy with Chatel on the helmet is Ben Cavet)
Bonjour from Chatel... there is some low cloud in the village area this morning after the overnight rain and temperatures are between 4C and 5C in the village and immediate valley area, which is mild for this time of the morning. The low cloud means that it is impossible to know at this stage where the overnight snow/rain boundary was situated.
This morning's forecast is expected to be online at 8.00am at ... http://www.chatelweb.com/chatel_snow_forecast.php
Most updates during the daytime periods in March will now by solely on the WhatsApp group, with an evening update posted on this page. How you can help this season... you will notice on some pages that there is a PayPal tip/donation box, eg on the "About Us" page, where you can send us a tip, if you like what we are doing. There is no obligation to do so, but any donations will help the running costs of this site during the winter season. This will also give you access to the WhatsApp group - which on some days, will be the only place where forecasts and snow reports are posted.
