14/01/2020: Today's Updates... Day 34...

It has been another lovely, sunny day here in Chatel, as the photos below show, though there was that wind higher up at times. The pistes remain in generally rather good shape, especially considering how long it has been since the last snowfall, there are some exceptions, but most runs are reportedly providing some very good skiing and boarding, helped with the overnight piste maintenance work. The pistes should receive a refresh on Friday night / Saturday, though the models continue to frustrate in terms of how much snow might arrive. The GFS has been doing its flip flop impression today, with the 6Z run showing only about 10cm, with the most recent run showing 20cm plus by the looks of it. Other models, such as Arpege, continue to show less snowfall, about 5cm to 10cm. There remains the chance of a surprise, though at the moment, quantities look useful, rather than significant. We'll keep you posted.

Another day of sunshine for us today, however, there are reports of wind affecting some of the higher areas. Here's the Arome model's view of wind strengths in km/h at lunchtime today...

Bonjour from Chatel. Another fine day is expected and temperatures are currently close to 0C in the village and below -3C a short distance down the valley, so there is a temperature inversion and no visible signs of snowmaking.

The models continue to differ regarding their handling of the end of week snow event...
