14/01/2021: Today's Updates...
Updated: 13 hours ago
Snow has been falling again here in Chatel this afternoon, and it has started to settle again, though it is wet snow and the temperature is above 0c, so there hasn't really been any net gains to the snow cover at 1200m yet. A bit higher up and the snow should be mounting up nicely.
Next update early tomorrow with news on overnight accumulations.
There has been a mix of rain, sleet and wet snow this morning in the village, with no additional accumulations to report.
Below are the latest Arome charts from www.meteociel.fr showing forecast snow accumulations from 1am this morning through to tomorrow and tomorrow night. The snowfall for the village elevation should be treated with caution, as the snow/rain boundary does look like staying close to the village, so there is plenty of uncertainty at the 1000m to 1200m elevation.
To highlight the marginal nature of the snowfall for the village today and this evening, the hi-res Arome suggests the 0c isotherm to be situated at...
1387m at 10am
1430m at midday
1500m at 3pm
1400m at 7pm
1338m at midnight tonight
1200m at 5am tomorrow
Currently sleet at 1150m. Updates to follow...
Bonjour from Chatel.
The snow of late yesterday turned to rain overnight, however, it is falling mostly as snow again now, but the situation at village elevation remains marginal. There is about 8cm of very wet fresh accumulations since the previous fall of 32cm on Tuesday afternoon and overnight into yesterday.
Looks like it was a good call over the last couple of days to mention the marginal nature of the snowfall at this elevation.
Update to follow with a look at what the model's are suggesting regarding further accumulations.
