14/03/2020: Today's Updates... Day 94...
Daily updates will continue on this site and the WhatsApp group. Regarding the forecast page updates, this will be reviewed tomorrow.
Confirmation from the Mayor that the resort is now closed.
The French government this evening announced the closing of all non-essential shops, cafes and restaurants - ie all non-essential public places, effective from midnight tonight. This has ended the ski season here in Chatel, though we await official confirmation on a local level.
The French side of the PDS remains open, with the resorts hoping to stay open as long as circumstances allow. As was the case this morning, there are no firm indications on how long this will be the case. So, for those who have just arrived or are arriving over the weekend, or who have future trips planned, the situation is still one of uncertainty.
Lifts and pistes which enter Switerland, such as those on Barbossine, and Chalet Neuf have now all closed, as they come under Swiss regulations, despite being part of the Chatel ski area.
With many people coming in from the Swiss side today, the car park at Vonnes filled up very quickly.
The weather was brighter at times today, quite chilly under any cloud and the snow remains plentiful at many elevations, especially above 1600m.
We live in unusual times.
Vonnes this morning - cars were also parked on the way to to the Pas de Morgins...
Bonjour from Chatel... air temperatures are close to 0C in the village this morning and although there is some cloud, it is a fairly bright start.
News that the Swiss side of the PDS is now closed due to the Covid19 pandemic was confirmed later in the day yesterday, however, the French side of the PDS, which includes Chatel, remains open this weekend. For how long the French PDS resorts will be allowed to stay open, remains to be seen.
This morning's forecast is expected to be online at 8.30am at ... http://www.chatelweb.com/chatel_snow_forecast.php
Most updates during the daytime periods in March will now by solely on the WhatsApp group, with an evening update posted on this page.
How you can help this season... you will notice on some pages that there is a PayPal tip/donation box, eg on the "About Us" page, where you can send us a tip, if you like what we are doing. There is no obligation to do so, but any donations will help the running costs of this site during the winter season. This will also give you access to the WhatsApp group - which on some days, will be the only place where forecasts and snow reports are posted.
