14/12/2020: Today's Updates...

Update 8.45am:

... and the view this morning...

Update 8.35am:

It has been an exciting couple of weeks in Chatel in terms of snowfalls and cold temperatures, with a combination of natural and man made snow creating a decent base on many pistes. The snowfalls of Friday and Saturday brought some significant quantities of snow for much of the ski area, with reports indicating a range of fresh depths of between 15cm and 35cm/40cm from bottom to top - which are in addition to the accumulations from previous snowfalls and man made snow.

The weather pattern is now looking different, with higher pressure over the european continent generally keeping the Atlantic low pressure systems out to the west, so, although there will be a weak, mild incursion tomorrow, with a bit of rain and snow, much of the week is looking dry.

The level of the 0c isotherm will be also higher during much of this week too, so there will be a milder feel, though shaded slopes and valley areas will remain colder under any clearer skies.

Low pressure may make more inroads into the continent from next weekend, but this is far from certain, but if this does happen, there could be opportunities for snowfall between next weekend and Christmas. Watch this space...

Update 7.15am:

Bonjour from Chatel... despite some clear skies, the air is less cold this morning here in Chatel with an air temperature between 0c and -1c and a temperature inversion bringing lower temperatures (-4c) to the valley floor...

Updates to follow, including a look at the forecast for the rest of the week...

The provisional opening date of the ski area is the 7th January 2021.
