17/03/2019: Today's Updates... 10.05pm...

10.05pm:

The max depth of fresh snow on some surfaces this evening at 1200m is 4.5cm. Cover is a bit hit and miss at this elevation, but there should be a useful top up higher up...

7.05pm:

Snow has been falling in the village over the last couple of hours - which is quite a contrast to this morning!!! There is a covering of snow at 1200m and info on accumulations will be added late this evening...

5.10pm:

Strong winds have again played havoc with the upper lifts today, which has been an annoying regular feature of this month. The wind also brought a foehn effect, with temperatures this morning rising from 2c to 15c in a short space of time, along with a large drop in humidity - so again as has been mentioned before on these pages, it is the weather equivalent of a hairdryer being switched on!

Rain has arrived in the last hour, and this is expected to turn to snow...

9.15am:

Strong winds are disrupting lift operations at PLJ.

It’s a foehn wind, with the foehn effect bringing a sudden rise in temperatures this morning along with a fall in humidity. Temp has shot up to 10c!

7.15am:

Bonjour... it is a fine and relatively mild start here in Chatel with air temperatures of 2c, and ground temperatures close to freezing. Rain and snow is expected later...

The forecast page is expected to be updated at 7.50am this morning.

How you can help this season... you will notice on some pages that there is a PayPal tip/donation box, eg on the "About Us" page, where you can send us a tip, if you like what we are doing. There is no obligation to do so, but any donations will help the running costs of this site during the winter season. The more people who help, the better we can make this site.
