18/02/2020: Today's Updates... Day 69...
Time is short - so a brief update - The ski area has seen markedly improved conditions today. On some south facing areas which had little snow underneath, the improvement was a temporary one, however, many pistes have see a welcome boost, with the early birds finding some great snow.
The better weather and snow conditions, meant that the ski area got really busy with some huge queues reported.
Further snowfall is expected to arrive later in the night, with the chance of up to 10cm of snow on the upper half of the ski area, with a fresh covering for the village - however, for these lower areas, this will be a transient covering. At this time of year, once we have gone back to grass on southern facing slopes near the village, it would take something special to bring a return of sustained snow cover - so unless there is a dramatic change in March, spring has effectively already arrived in the village.
The village is looking better this morning... reports of 10cm to 15cm of fresh snow higher up - so likely to be some slightly deeper pockets here and there. Official updates from the resorts are Avoriaz 5cm at 1800m and Chatel 10cm.
Bonjour from Chatel... there has been a bit of snow in the village overnight with 1.5cm on some surfaces at our location just below 1200m, with some surfaces having no cover. Current temperature just below 0C. There should have been some very useful cm's higher up on the ski area, so it looks like being a potentially excellent day...
This morning's forecast is already online at http://www.chatelweb.com/chatel_snow_forecast.php - and updates on this page will follow during the day.
