19/02/2021: Today's Updates...
Bonjour from Chatel.
Air temperatures have remained above 0c in the valley and village overnight, which is really very mild for February when skies are mostly clear, and the mild spell is set to intensify over the coming days.
The 0c isotherm is expected to rise to about 2500m today, but then rise above 3000m over the weekend and at times next week. When skies are clear, the snowpack should be resilient on shaded slopes, however, the thaw is set to continue in the village an on the sunny aspect slopes. The thaw will be aided by the layer of saharan sand, which is now on the surface of the snow in some areas. The sand can be seen on the surface of the snow on this photo taken yesterday.
