21/11/2019: Today's Updates... Next Week?...

A temperature inversion allowed the snow cannon to operate lower down in La Chapelle this morning, though conditions higher up were not as suitable.

Foehn conditions are still expected to develop in the area later tomorrow and overnight into Saturday. Winds are forecast to exceed 100kmh early on Saturday on the Swiss side eg Val d'Illiez - and how these will manifest themselves in our valley remains to be seen - both in terms of temperature and wind strength - however - we could see a noticeable spike in temperatures at some stage.

Looking further ahead and the GFS model has just churned out a shockingly poor 12z run, with mostly mild or very mild conditions next week. Other models are not showing quite as bad a scenario and the UK Met Office chart for the middle of the next week has some potential - so it is not all bad news in terms of the outlook - unless of course you are just looking at the GFS model!

Updates on the foehn tomorrow...

Bonjour from Chatel, where the skies are clear again and there has been a slight frost in the valley, though conditions look as though they have not been cold enough for widespread snowmaking on the ski area.

We'll take a look at the latest info on the potential Fri/Sat foehn and the prospects for next week, on an update this evening.
