21/12/2018: Today's Updates... 7.35pm...

Day 7 Of The 2018/19 Chatel Ski Season:

The rain continues to fall here in Chatel.

This evening's models have little more to add to the scenario suggested this morning, with a showery weekend in prospect, with the snow/rain limit remaining rather elevated at times. There is still disagreement whether any precipitation on Christmas Eve will end up falling as snow at lower elevations, but more on this on tomorrow morning's forecast update. High pressure still looks like bringing mostly dry weather from Christmas Day until the New Year...

"Not the best", is one way of describing the weather in the village this afternoon. Heavy rain and an increasing wind is bringing some really unpleasant conditions... hopefully the worst of the rain will pass through this evening, but there looks like being some generally mild and mixed conditions tomorrow. Rain is expected to the top of the ski area this evening.

Update to follow this evening, once the models have updated.

With bad weather heading in, an early trip was made to the ski area, where snow conditions were found to be excellent. Staying on the Linga side, and only using the Linga telecabine to avoid the wind and potentially bad visibility up at the top, several runs were made with variations possible on the descent, as more runs were now open, including the Stade piste. The beautifully groomed pistes were soft and fun and deserted - probably about as good as it gets between the telecabine and halfway down to the bottom, with lovely feeling snow underfoot.

By just after 10am, the rain and snow arrived, with snow falling readily above about 1500m and coming down nicely at times at the top of the telecabine, which is just under 1800m in elevation. Sadly, the rain/snow limit is set to rise considerably this afternoon and the winds may be an issue at times higher up.

Although we did not make it over to PLJ this morning, the new Pierre Longue chairlift is listed as closed today.

Next update - this evening...

A cloudy but dry start at Linga.

Weather soon closed in - but the Stade is open!

Snow was falling above 1500m

There will be an update online at about 12.30pm local time, as today's visit to the ski area has already taken place, as the bad weather closes in...

Bonjour from Chatel. There is no fresh snow to report this morning since a dusting from a shower late yesterday afternoon.

The forecast page is due to be updated by 7.45am and further updates will be posted on this page today...

How you can help this season... you will notice on some pages that there is a PayPal tip/donation box, eg on the "About Us" page, where you can send us a tip, if you like what we are doing. There is no obligation to do so, but any donations will help the running costs of this site during the winter season. The more people who help, the better we can make this site.

12/04/2021: Today's Updates...

Update: 1.30pm: Overnight snowfall brought up to 6cm to the village - with less on other surfaces and alot of it has now thawed at this elevation. It was interesting to see more snow a few miles away
