22/01/2019: Today's Updates... 7.30pm...

7.30pm:

... and here is the latest Arome snowfall chart for tomorrow and up to 7am on Thursday...

Chart from www.meteociel.fr ...

5.45pm:

The clear skies have continued to the end of the day here in Chatel, but now we are looking at cloudier skies over the next couple of days. The Arome model is currently churning out its prognosis for the tomorrow's snowfall, and we'll post the chart when it is fully updated this evening...

Nice end to the day at Flammet.

12.50pm:

The skies are blue again here in Chatel today and this morning was cold and clear on the ski area. Piste conditions are generally good, but are getting harder on many steeper slopes, with some loose, cold, dry snow providing some grip, interspersed with icier areas. The snow on the less steep slopes was found to be generally much softer and grippier, as you would expect. The cold temperatures meant that snow cannon had been operating overnight and were still working just before midday on the Stade at Linga. Piste coverage, in terms of snow depth is generally very good on the pistes with snow cannon cover, but still a bit hit and miss on areas relying solely on natural snow.

So all in all, conditions, in terms of piste hardness and condition, are about as would be expected when it hasn't snowed for 5 days, but another top up of snow would now be really nice again...

A couple of photos from the PLJ area this morning...

8.45am:

Early mist in the village area this morning...

6.45am:

Temperatures are below -10c early this morning in Chatel, with clear skies overhead.

There will be further updates today, starting first on the forecast page, which will be updated at between 7.35am and 7.45am...
