22/02/2019: Today's Updates... 9.30am...

9.30am:

The sun is shining in Chatel this morning, though we are expecting a different feel higher up, due to a "Bise" wind blowing. Snow conditions are generally in the spring snow category and we are seeing some deterioration on lower sunny aspect slopes, especially those which have not had the benefit of snow cannon cover. On the whole, snow conditions are holding up remarkably well under this mild onslaught, aided by the clear skies which are good for snow preservation. Remember - mild and cloudy weather is the real enemy of snow cover.

There is no further news on the deeply troubling incident on the Pierre Longue chairlift yesterday.

A look at the lastest charts from the major models on www.meteociel.fr suggests high pressure remaining dominant over the next week. However, the 192hr charts below, although showing notable differences, do suggest that something rather more changeable is on the way, as we head into March. The GFS "Para" chart shown below, is potentially the most promising in terms of a snowy pattern developing, however, there remains a chance of a rather mild pattern continuing, with the ECMWF model very much in that potentially mild camp at the moment.

All we can say at this stage is that a change is possible in early March, but it may or may not be the change that we are looking for. In the shorter term, there is the chance of some exceptionally high (for February) daytime temperatures during next week...

7.20am:

Bonjour - Temperatures are currently near -2c just below the village and the skies are clear once again...

Updates will appear on this page today and the forecast page is expected to be updated

towards 7.45am this morning.
