23/01/2019: Today's Updates... 8.20pm...

It has been snowing very lightly since the last update and we have just about reached 1cm of fresh snow at 1200m... next update early tomorrow...

We were in Les Crosets today - and will be all day for the next 2 days dues to races, so daytime updates will be from the mountain. We have kept hearing reports of great snow over in this little gem of a bowl and we were not disappointed! The pistes were found to be mostly in excellent condition for piste skiing and riding with grippy, cold and dry snow and very little ice and also relatively few people. It was commented that conditions underfoot were far better than was experienced at PLJ the day before - where conditions were good, but no where near as good as was the case today in Crosets! Today was the second day of the FIS races over there, which are part of the annual Welsh Skiing Championships and the next 2 days sees over 140 British children take part in GS and slalom events.

As for the weather today, this morning was bright and cold and then the cloud increased this afternoon, bringing some light snowfall. There is currently no more than a dusting in the village so far, but the latest models have upticked amounts a tiny bit since this morning, so this is something we'll keep an eye on.

A view from Les Crosets.

Just a quick addition to this morning's forecast page - an example of the downgrade in accumulation amounts in the immediate area from the Arome model on www.meteociel.fr.

Slightly higher quantities expected a short distance to the west...

Bonjour - It is another cold start to the day here in Chatel, currently dry, with a veil of high cloud overhead, but thin enough to be able to still see the moon. Temperatures are near to -8c.

There will be further updates today, starting first on the forecast page, which will be updated at between 7.30am and 7.45am...

How you can help this season... you will notice on some pages that there is a PayPal tip/donation box, eg on the "About Us" page, where you can send us a tip, if you like what we are doing. There is no obligation to do so, but any donations will help the running costs of this site during the winter season. The more people who help, the better we can make this site.
