23/12/2019: Today's Updates... Day 12 of the 2019/20 Season...
A morning on the ski area found plenty of points of interest and plenty, plenty, plenty of fresh snow.
The severe avalanche risk meant that the Linga area was closed until about 11.30am, resulting in people heading up to PLJ. In that sector, more snow had fallen at 1300m than at the same elevation in the village and heading up the Pierre Longue, it wasn't long before the fresh accumulations got deeper and deeper.
At Plaine Dranse, there were areas with up to 90cm of fresh snow - however - note that some of this would have been helped by wind re-distribution, so not as much as this has actually fallen, but the photos below give a flavour of the scenes at 1650m. It is very difficult to say how much snow has fallen since Saturday, perhaps 60cm at 1800m, however, there were areas with less and areas with more, so in these circumstances it really is a guesstimate.
As for the snow quality, it was mostly excellent underfoot until you descended down from Plaine Dranse, where the snow was much wetter and sticker.
So, a significant snowfall for most of the ski area, though the areas in most need of snow right at the bottom have missed out - though the Conche is now open at Super Chatel.
Areas wich need more snow include the Stade at Linga and the run to the Super Chatel telecabine into the village.
The ski area will take a little step backwards tomorrow, as rain is forecast (boo), however, there should be some fine days thereafter.
Note that the next update will probably be late tomorrow, due to travelling, though the forecast should be online as normal in the morning.
Bonjour from Chatel... there has been some further snowfall overnight, though for the village, the accumulations have been modest, with 6cm of fresh wet snow measured a few minutes ago at our location, just below 1200m. Temperatures remain above 0c, currently 1.5c with snow falling.
...more info on this will be posted on today's forecast page at... http://www.chatelweb.com/chatel_snow_forecast.php - which should be online around 8am, followed by further updates on this page today.
