24/01/2020: Today's Updates... Day 44...
It has been another mostly lovely day today, though the sunshine was a little hazier at times, with some high cloud knocking about. Temperatures were a touch cooler and this may be the case tomorrow too, with the 0C isotherm expected to top out at about 1900m. The photo below was from Les Crosets at lunchtime today.
Snow conditions remain the same, which is mostly good - especially as we have only had one useful snowfall in the last month. However, there are now signs of something perhaps rather more than useful arriving...
Below is the latest chart from the Arpege model, which, although it has a broad brush regarding precipitation distribution, is signalling the chance of a significant snow event. Its 0C isotherm prediction suggests that precipitation on Monday night and Tuesday could fall to village level, or perhaps much lower at times on Tuesday, resulting in the not too shabby accumulations shown below. At the moment, this is of course far from being resolved in terms of precipitation amounts and the snow/rain limits, but we do at least have a signal for something on the way.
Remember to not take too much notice of how this chart distributes the snowfall from village to village - it is the overall picture which is of interest...
