24/02/2020: Today’s Updates... Day 75...

6.15pm:

Temperatures soared again today, reaching between 16C and 17C in the village and the strong sunshine made it feel warmer than yesterday, even though the recorded temperatures were a touch lower.

It was also potentially one of the busiest days the Chatel ski area has ever seen, with the car parks filling up very quickly this morning and huge queues reported on some of the main lifts in the PLJ and Linga areas. Some might say that things are getting too busy during some of these peak weeks of the season, with an ever expanding resort - in terms of increasing numbers of apartments being built, with no increase in road or car park capacity. The numbers of people today were probably enhanced due to the lack of snow in other areas, however, the trend does appear to be one of the main holiday weeks getting busier and busier.

Winter is set to make something of a return tomorrow night, with a rain to snow event arriving during tomorrow afternoon and evening. The boundary between the snow and rain looks like being between 1300m and 1500m during the afternoon and first half of the evening, coming down properly to the village later in the evening. So, at the moment we are not expecting much in the way of snowfall for the village until much later in the evening and overnight into Wednesday. The latest run from the hi-res Arome model, goes out to 7am on Wednesday and the graphic below shows its predictions. It will be interesting to see what it says about the daytime period of Wednesday as there is quite a range of predictions coming from GFS and other models - so tomorrow morning's Arome model output will be key...
