24/12/2020: Today's Updates...

Update 5.05pm:

After the morning snow shower, it remained dry but cloudy for several hours before rain and sleet arrived in the village this afternoon. Currently, at 1150m, it is mix of sleet and wet snow which is falling. Hopefully we will see settling snow in the not too distant future.

Update 9.45am:

A snow shower has been affecting the village in the last half hour, bringing a dusting, especially above 1200m... snow currently falling...

Update 8.30am:

The mild weather of yesterday and overnight rain has further diminished the snow cover in the village, so, in a normal season, there would be concerns regarding the lack of snow in some parts of the ski area, for example in the Barbossine and Morclan areas. Pistes which benefitted from the early December snowfalls and saw extensive snow making, generally have decent cover.

Here is the current snow line...

Drier weather is expected for the next few hours before snow arrives to all elevations of the ski area during the afternoon period.

Forecast 0c isotherm levels today are:

9am: 1600m / Midday: 1650m / 3pm: 1550m / 8pm: 1350m: Midnight: 950m then falling further overnight.

Updates expected later - when (hopefully) the snow arrives to the village.

Update 8.10am:

The rain has now eased and it looks like there has been some fresh snow above approximately 1600m. The action is expected to affect lower elevations this afternoon, evening and tonight. Update to follow in the next hour, with a look at the latest prediction from the hi-res models.

Update 7.20am:

Bonjour from Chatel, where it a damp start to the day in the village with rain currently falling at 1150m. It should now be snowing on the upper half of the ski area.

Update to follow, once there is some light to see the current snowline.

The provisional opening date of the ski area is the 7th January 2021.

Bars, restaurants and cafes are expected to remain closed until at least the 20th January (takeaway services allowed before then).

Although confinement has ended in France - an overnight curfew is in place from 8pm to 6am (except the evening of 24th December).

Private gatherings indoors should be kept to a maximum of 6 adults according to advice from the French government.

Travel between regions in France is allowed.
