28/01/2019: Today's Updates... 8.45pm...

8.45pm:

Another 4cm since the last update bringing the total to 11cm today since 7am.

These are the best kind of snowfalls - when you get more than expected... still snowing so we shall see where we end up on the early update tomorrow morning...

Total snofwfall at 1200m since Sunday morning is now 37cm... not bad at all!

6.35pm:

Snow has been falling over the last couple of hours here in Chatel, moderately at times and we have a fresh, powdery 7cm on our measuring surface a few minutes ago. So, that is a total of 7cm since 7am this morning. So far this a very nice little bonus top up...

Still snowing... will update before bedtime...

2.05pm:

Conditions under foot have been great on the ski area this morning, with just enough powder to satisfy the cravings of the powder hungry. This has not been a big snowfall, and a series of measurements in the Barbssoine sector today found an average max depth of fresh snow of 30cm, with wind redistribution bringing deeper pockets and others where you could feel the frozen snow underneath. Reports from nearer to Avoriaz suggest 40cm at 1800m , which is probably about right, as a more was expected in this sector, however, measuring anything accurately after all that wind late in the day yesterday, does bring plenty of uncertainty as to what has actually fallen.

Since 7am today, there has only been light snow flurries bringing an additional dusting and there have been some brighter spells too. As it stands this afternoon, we are expecting a light snowfall this evening, but at the moment there is nothing to suggest that the forecast amounts that were suggested this morning will be exceeded, and may perhaps end up towards the bottom of the forecast ranges... but we shall see...

Trees and powder, trees and powder...

7.50am:

Early morning view into the centre...

6.35am:

Bonjour - a further 8cm of snow has fallen in the village since the last update yesterday evening, bringing the total since 7am Sunday to 26cm at 1200m. Currently -4c with one or two flakes falling.

Updates will appear on this page today and the forecast page is expected to be updated between 7.30am and 7.45am this morning.
