28/12/2020: Today's Updates...
Further snow and graupel / pellet showers have brought another 3cm since the last update. Total for this snowfall is 19cm. Currently drier and brighter. Further snow is expected this evening / tonight.
A couple of heavy snow showers have blown through the area, bringing some noticeable gusts of wind at times too. There has been approximately another 3cm of fresh snow to add to the 13cm, which has fallen since last night, bringing the total for this current snow event to 16cm. This is a promising start to a snowy couple of days, so, at the moment, it looks as though accumulations may exceed those on the graphics posted earlier today.
It has been an exciting morning! 9cm of snow fell in a short space of time up to about 9am, adding to the overnight 4cm. After a drier interlude, the snowfall has resumed.

Currently snowing quite heavily...
Bonjour from Chatel. There was some slightly milder air affecting the area late in the day yesterday and yesterday evening and the 0c isotherm currently remains just above the village. There are an additional 4cm of fresh wet snow accumulations on the ground... as it has been snowing, with light snow still falling. The overnight and current level of the 0c isotherm was picked up accurately by the Arome model, however, the GFS model has been way out on its prediction, as it suggests the freezing level should currently by below 700m.
Arome suggests that further snowfall is likely over the next 36 hours, with the 0c isotherm remaining generally close to the village elevation.
Here are the Arome accumulation forecast charts from www.meteociel.fr
from the latest 00z model run, with a photo of the route de Thonon below at 7am...
