29/01/2021: Today's Updates...
Snow/rain boundary appears to be currently near to 1900m.
Another look at the forecast level of the 0c isotherm from the Arome model. Remember - an approximate guide is that the snow/rain boundary is 300m below the 0c isotherm level (+/- 150m), though the snow can come down lower under some circumstances in periods of heavier precipitation.
Most (but not all) of today's rain and snow is expected to fall this morning (some uncertainty on this).
The numbers below suggest that the snow/rain boundary will be lower today, but still mostly above the village, though a few sleety flakes are possible at 1200m.
0c Isotherm Level Today
1786m at 10am
1661m at 1pm
1658m at 2pm
1652m at 5pm
1555m at 9pm
1519m at midnight.
Further rain and snow arrives early tomorrow, but the rain/snow boundary will be rising again, perhaps reaching 2000m for a time around the middle of the day, before easing down later.
0c Isotherm Level Saturday
1789m at 6am
1966m at 8am
2247m at 10am
2340m at midday
1725m at 4pm
1572m at 7pm.
Thereafter, beyond the range of the Arome, the Arpege model suggests a 0c isotherm between 1500m and 1800m during Sunday and Monday, so any precipitation still looks like being rain for the village at times, though there could be one or two periods of snow in the mix. Next week is looking mild, with a chance of a period of exceptionally mild weather.
Bonjour from Chatel.
It is another wet start to the morning here in the village, after a wet night.
Further rain is expected in the village, though the snow/rain boundary should be lower today - however, we are not out of the woods yet, as that boundary will boing back upwards tomorrow.
There will be another look at the 0c isotherm forecast this morning, using the Arome model, which should give an indication of where the snow/rain boundary is likely to be... update before 9am...
