- The Chatel Snow Report
30/01/2021: Today's Updates...
Update 8.00am:
Now that it is light, there is a bit of fresh snow visible on the trees just above the village - at about 1400m.
Update 6.40am:
Bonjour from Chatel.
Yesterday saw showery rain in the village, with some sleet and graupel too, as well as some flakes of snow. The thaw of lying snow continued at lower elevations.
The relatively mild spell continues today with some further spells of rain and snow.
Below is another look at the hi-res Arome model's view of where the 0c isotherm will be - with the snow/rain boundary often about 300m below this figure (+/- 150m), though the snow can come down lower under some circumstances in periods of heavier precipitation.
The message this morning is that a bit of snow could come down as low as the village later, if there is still some precipitation knocking about.
0c Isotherm Level Today
1825m at 10am
1836m at 1pm
1797m at 2pm
1608m at 5pm
1473m at 9pm
1404m at midnight.
Not much precipitation is expected during the daytime tomorrow, with the freezing level rising to about 1800m. After the chance of a snowfall on Sunday night and Monday, the trend looks as though it will be an increasingly mild one next week.
