• The Chatel Snow Report

Today's Updates: 01/12/2019...

The trip up was a bit of a slushy and soaking one, but the snow line isn't too far away from the village, with settling snow from around 1450m upwards. Below that, there was wet snow falling down to 1300m, with rain and sleet below that. Since the trip was made, there are again some wet flakes of snow mixed in with the rain at around 1200 as this update is being typed. Photos below from about 1440m.

Once again today, it is the areas above 1500m /1600m that have really benefited from the snowfall, with the very lowest slopes mostly missing out again. Some further rain and snow is expected this evening, though again, it looks like being a marginal affair for the village, with the settling snow line potentially remaining in a similar area to what was found this afternoon - though it could come down a little bit in any heavier bursts of precipitation.

Unless the situation changes this evening, the next post will be an early update tomorrow (7am-ish is the plan) and also the daily snow forecast page update at approx 8am.

Thanks again to those using the PayPal button to send a tip / donate - it is very much appreciated and the new WhatsApp group is now up and running. See details on the button of this page if you wish to contribute.

The snow / rain limit has headed in the wrong direction... ie upwards - so going to go and try and find it!

A mix of rain, sleet and wet snow in the village now, with the snow on the ground turning to slush at 1200m. A short distance above the village, the snow will still be accumulating. Hopefully, a trip will be made higher up later this afternoon.

The last couple of days has also seen alot of traffic coming through this site, with 1630 page views recorded on Friday - which is much busier than the end of last November. Many thanks to those who are finding the site of continued interest and to those who are sending in tips via the About Us page - these allow us to spend more time doing updates and also gives readers the opportunity of joining the WhatsApp group, which will see more in the way of exclusive content this season. On some individual days during the season, most updates will appear only on that group - so if you don't want to miss out...

Snow has been falling steadily in the village since the last update, however, at our location at about 1170m, it is very wet snow, so not much more than a cm has accumulated. A little bit higher up and the story should be very different with several cm's likely already and our morning forecast the the 1800m elevation may be surpassed today. The snow should also be accumulating on the lower sections at PLJ, which should help to widen the piste down to the bottom of the Pierre Longe.

No photos yet as it's a bit of a pea souper!

The snow has arrived and is settling.

8.20am: Bonjour from a misty Chatel!

Updates will be posted on here through the day, as some snow is expected... but how much?

How you can help this season... you will notice on some pages that there is a PayPal tip/donation box, eg on the "About Us" page, where you can send us a tip, if you like what we are doing. There is no obligation to do so, but any donations will help the running costs of this site during the winter season. This will also give you access to the WhatsApp group - if you wish to join.
